Bonjour a tous!!

My old laptop is fried. Last week the light code of the caplock button was telling me the sad news.
I started to look for a new one but the market seems to be really fixed. I'm working as a postdoc in Paris for 3 years and I don't know where to look for good deals (also this is why I write in english, sorry about that).

I would like to know wheter you can get a new laptop without any operating system installed (obviously I use archlinux) and would love to get one with one of those hybrid hard drives. All the rest specs would not make a big difference on the way I use the computer.

You can take a look at http://www.pcw.fr/shop/

They sell laptops without os (clevo as previously mentionned in this thread and others). You can buy online but they also have a shop located close to Paris, that you can easily reach by train (RER A).

You can also buy a laptop with Windows preinstalled. Some manufacturers accept to remove Windows for a refund (I think no more than 40€).
You can buy a laptop by Internet. If you want to be refund for Windows license, you must not activate it. I have never tested.

If you're still a student, http://portable-etudiant.com is worth a shot. They sell Dell Pro laptops with a huge slash on the prices, along with available customization, including removal of Windows.

Hello and thank you all for the replies, I love arch forums!! I could not check at the answers before because I don't have my computer....
I have checked on the recommended shops and they look very nice, exactly what I was looking for. Very customizable (the clevo page) and affordable prices, at least a lot less than what I was seeing in dell or hp sites (normally, this is where they buy this stuffs in the institute Jacques Monod where I work). And best of all, no windows pre-installed!!

I did not recommend a shop since I did not know what you want... Some shop are better than others for some kind of laptop (ultrabook, ...)
But if you really want a laptop without Windows, LDLC does have a shop in Paris (and a website) which provides many laptop without Windows
