Hello. Could you upgrade this package ?.. I really need the SMP functions from v3 (or just supply an extra package for v3)

(Sorry that I used english, I can't speak French..)

Bonjour. Pourriez-vous améliorer ce paquet? .. J'ai vraiment besoin de fonctions de SMP v3 (ou tout simplement fournir un paquet pour v3)

You will have more answers on english archlinux forum !
I have read that an AUR PKGBUILD is available, but I don't know if it works. ;)

AUR package works, I tested it soon after it was available.

You want an update of the archlinuxfr repository to the last version of virtualbox ?

It seems you dont have writing permissions for those folders. Maybe you should : chown -R username:users /home/username

Or chmod.. well.. with root, you surely can pass this error I guess.

===

http://www.virtualbox.org/manual/UserMa ... nownIssues

DirectX acceleration came in (you have to install guest additions for XP in safe mode to get it work!) ; SMP support (you can assign a guest about 32CPUs)
Beware! This version can be slow on some AMD CPU (with XP guest IIRC)

"There are a few problems when compiz is used as the host's window manager, notably:
* seamless mode does not work well (garbled screen display if no windows are open in the guest);
* OpenGL guest acceleration (added with 2.1) is very slow.

If you experience these problems, you way want to try using a different window manager, such as metacity."

#The following Guest SMP (multiprocessor) limitations exist:

* Bad performance with 32-bit guests on AMD CPUs. This affects mainly Windows and Solaris guests, but possibly also some Linux kernel revisions.
* 64-bit guests on 32-bit hosts do not support SMP yet (except on Mac OS X).

# 64-bit guests on some 32-bit host systems with VT-x can cause instabilities to your system. If you experience this, do not attempt to execute 64-bit guests. Refer to the VirtualBox user forum for additional information.
# Direct 3D support in Windows guests. For this to work, the Guest Additions must be installed in Windows "safe mode". Press F8 when the Windows guest is booting and select "Safe mode", then install the Guest Additions. Otherwise Windows' file protection mechanism will interfere with the replacement DLLs installed by VirtualBox and keep restoring the original Windows system DLLs.

====

* Homogène mode ne fonctionne pas bien (écran brouillé si pas de fenêtres sont ouvertes dans l'hôtellerie);
* L'accélération OpenGL guest (ajouté avec 2,1) est très lente.

Retry in 10 minutes and tell me if it's ok. I use i686 arch, i can't test my self.

Okay I'll. Then I'll report back about things, compatibilty and such.. :) (About splitting the package in two. virtualbox_bin = v3 (latest), virtualbox2_bin (v2 if someone have got an AMD or something problematic would come up) .. (well.. he/she can use AUR too.. beats me which is the best solution)

Experiences (x86_64):

- XP 32bit guest runs perfectly (installed with 2.2.4). < Do _NOT_ assign more CPU after you used it in 2.2.4, since you have to enable IO APIC what kills the guest. So just reinstall XP (repair it from disc?) after adding more CPU.. or just simply update your guest additions and leave it as it is.

- Debian 5.0 i386 guest starts up/works perfectly.

Migrating to V3:
> http://shiki.biomernok.hu/pic/2009-07-0 ... _scrot.png

As you can see it uses all my 3CPU and 1 stays at host whenever I want to do something. 128mb VRAM went to XP + 3D enabled.

> Installed XP, reboot into recovery mode (for GA), installed them. Reboot again. Copying up Steam + directX atm.

... I've got no good news. Enabling IO APIC slows down the PC totally, even though I use an INTEL Q6600 , not an AMD cpu. Just an IE + directX install made a full lockup.. :-/.. Trying to investigate the problem...

... DXDIAG: Direct draw: ALL works.
D3D: Not enough memory (what the f...???)...
(Here is the link about the implemented D3D: http://www.nongnu.org/wined3d/ .. but I cant find the bugreport where they mention which technology do they implemented)
UPDATE IS COMING...STAY TUNED (and french version as well)

Okay 3D is a no go.. :( > http://kepfeltoltes.hu/090702/304380047 ... es.hu_.jpg (It says: The test couldn't be completed because of it stopped at the 8th step (creation of the 3D device): HRESULT = 0x0..... (Not enough memory (now I gave 1024mb to the VM and 64mb VRAM))

http://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/4325

Okay 3D is WineD3D. UNusable just as ever. If you want to play, or/and if you are *NOT* a mazochist, use wine, cedega, crossover, or Windows OS.:
http://shiki.biomernok.hu/pic/2009-07-0 ... _scrot.png

I guess this is the end. So SMP is NOT usable for XP , nor Vista , since both slows down REALLY much if you enable IO APIC. Uhm.. Linux hosts.. they were OK always, I cant try anything out I guess. If you have any request / question, just go on, I can install almost any guest OS.

Shiki : I have already read the Known Issues ! I just want to know if the difference (in DirectX applications) is important, or not. ;)

EDIT : I use XP in guest.

Stay tuned. I'll post the experiences of mine soon.. just stay tuned. ;) (I'll update my previous post if its possible) (As far as I heard they just ported the WineD3D stuff, what is really the worst, but I'll see soon. About 5 minutes and my CounterStrike Source lands in the VM for test.. lol :))
